Canadian Immigration requires that you must have insurance for the duration of your stay. You must provide proof of this insurance to the Immigration Officer when you enter Canada. You may be refused entry if you don't have insurance. If your insurance policy is valid for less than 24 months, you maybe issued a work permit that expired at the same time as your insurance. In this case, you may not apply for an extension of your work permit at a later date.
